Special offer holidays and breaks in
the Trossachs Loch Lomond
Stirling is a wonderful town to visit. Its central location in Scotland on
the river Forth makes it a holiday venue with historic sites galore, scenic drives
on the doorstep and of course you can savour traditional Scottish entertainment and
cuisine in Stirling by day and by night. Excellent Trossachs B&B within 12 m.
The location of Stirling on the River Forth at the first point at which it could be forded
or bridged made it strategically important in Scotland's long history of unrest and
invasion. That same location has made it strategically important to the tourist industry
and to anyone wishing to get an instant flavour of Scotland. Many of the important
buildings in the older part of the town have been preserved, either by accident or by
intent to make it a fascinating place for those with an interest in history. The splendid
situation of Stirling Castle on its magnificent volcanic rock make it a wonderful place to
get your first view of the highland hills. The location at one of Scotland's main
crossroads makes it a great base from which to explore the rest of Scotland.
It is beyond the scope of this article to explore the whole of Scotland for you - that is best left to greater minds than mine. What I would like to achieve in these few short pages is to provide a brief description of Stirling's main attractions and then to explore the area immediately accessible from Stirling.
